‘ASAL’ isn’t just a special film for all of us, but for ‘Thala’ himself. Yeah! The ultimate actor has involved himself into all the departments of filmmaking – right from scratching on the script papers to the editing table.

Is it right calling him Actor Ajith Kumar now? Definitely not: he has turned into a finest screenwriter, co-director and dialogue writer. Of course, you’ll see his names rolling under these contexts in title credits….

Here’s an exclusive chat with Ajith Kumar on the eve of ASAL release.

So, how do you feel about the film’s output now?

It has come out really extraordinary. I would say this as a film buff since ASAL has the right mix of style, story and substance… It’s a special film for me since it has offered me a good platform to come up as a co-director, screenwriter and so on….

After spending so many years, nearly two decades, how do you feel being a part of industry?

It’s completely high time in Tamil film industry as there have been lots of advancements not just in technical panoramas, but across the way of storytelling as well. To be precise, my personal journey across the tinsel town has been filled with roses and thorns. I would thank my fans, who’ve been my greatest support despites my speculative situations.

You’ve been credited as co-director in ‘ASAL’. Does it mean that we will witness your new avatar as filmmaker….

I believe in the present and my journey has been so focused. As the producers saw me so focused in all works, they just gave me credits. But accordingly, acting is my preference and I don’t have idea about future.

How about your next film (50th film) with Gowtham Menon?

It’s gonna be a special film for everyone, for me, Gowtham and fans. But I cannot reveal anything more on that until we have made negotiations with producers.

Anything special for your fans in ASAL…

Definitely, the film has lots of cheerful moments for my fans and they’ll enjoy to the extremum.

Why did you suddenly give up the title ‘Ultimate Star’?

As mentioned earlier, Tamil Cinema is going through a rapid transcendence in all arenas and technicians like A.R. Rahman have been brining honors to Tamil film industry. I should start striving for betterments on my part and don’t adhere myself to such strata.
